Charlie Oatway(Asst Manager / Midfield)
|Charlie started his career in 1993 at Yeading, moving on a year later to Cardiff City where he made around 40 appearances before switching to Torquay in 1995. With the Gulls he played 71 games in two seasons before making a Ł10,000 move to Brentford, where he also enjoyed a loan spell with Lincoln City. From there he made a Ł15,000 move to Brighton in July 1999, and racked up almost 250 appearances before a broken ankle saw him make his last appearance for the side in a Boxing Day match against Queens Park Rangers in December 2005.
Oatway was made Brighton’s captain in 2004, and remained in the role as well as coaching the side during his last 18 months with the club.
At the end of a lengthy convalescence, he featured in Brighton’s 2007/08 pre-season campaign but opted to retire from the professional game in favour of a new life with the Hawks. Two weeks after joining the side his coaching experience made him an obvious candidate to become the Hawks’ new assistant manager when Shaun Gale vacated the role to become full manager.
Parted company with the Hawks in June 2009 after disagreements with Shaun Gale.
