Hawks in Europe - really!

No, not the first team, but the mighty Walking Footballers.

We have been invited to take part in a 5-a-side Walking Football Tournament in Portugal in October (8th - 11th October).

The basic cost (plus booze and other entertainments - possibly car hire too) is likely to be in the region of £325pp (the event is €233 plus the flight about £160). This includes full board for 3 nights and the tournament itself which will be held over two days on the 9th and 10th.

There was significant interest at today's training session (indoors, not outside in the lightning!), and so far five of the regulars have signed up for it. We need to have a squad of eight or nine, and they need to be fully committed to attending, so we are looking to bank £100 deposits from all the players who say they want to go.

If you are interested, please contact honestmatt@yahoo.co.uk as a matter of urgency to book your place! Matt can forward you the e-leaflet we were sent. The venue is http://www.brownsclub.com/en/home.html although that website doesn't have any info about the tournament on it (yet).

For those of you feeling left out because you can't make it to Portugal, fear not, there is the alternative Walking Football challenge of the Many Shades' Autumn Festival, which was already scheduled for the 11th October. In spite of one team going to Portugal, we will still be entering at least one other team in our own Festival!

News in is that the Portuguese adventure looks like it will be on..... 8-)

We have had notification that there is a WF Festival at "Browns" at Vilamoura, the Algarve, from 5th - 8th May 2016.

The itinerary is to arrive at Faro on 5th, be transferred to the complex for three nights' full board.

First rounds of matches on 6th, followed by another round of matches on 7th along with prize-giving and a barbie, then fly back on 8th.

Cost is 253.00 euros (about £180) plus flights. I'm not very good at booking cheap flights, so don't take this as gospel, but it looks like Gatwick is the best option, and the flights might cost as much as the football.... I'm sure one of our number can find us a good price.

Le Tour de France takes off from Pompey Ferry Port on the evening of Sunday 2nd October. Our two-day mission, to boldly go where no walking footballer has gone before, to try out new cheeses, to explore new vintners... yeah, all right...

Seriously though, the mighty Many Shades of Grey are off to Cleguerec in the heart of Brittany to play a tournament being arranged by a cricket club!

Your Many Shades players going along are Martyn Bishop, Rich Bishop, Pete Dolomore, Barrie Gray, John Morgan, Stew Russell, Paul Sealey, and Ian Warren. Accompanying them will be a player from Pompey ITC, one from Mountbatten WFT, and no less than five from Bristol City. Oh, and a few WAGs as well! Talk about mob-handed.

Del One of my most favouritist meals is Duck à l'Orange, but I don't know how to say that in French.
Rodney It's canard.
Del You can say that again bruv!
